VERAGUAS (SONA) FAIR 2010

HISTORY OF THE FAIR

Around 1950 Sona reached a great economic revival, since absorbed nearly all the trade from the Gulf of Montijo and other coastal towns like Bahia Honda, Hicaco, Santa Catalina, Mariato and Quebro, whose inhabitants came to Sona through the San Pablo River, landing at the port of the same name.

It added that Sona was obligatory step in the movement of trade between the province of Chiriqui and the cities of Panama and Colon, thereby maintaining and increasing the welfare of Sona. So much so that this town had become the granary of the republic and represents great potential in livestock.

Unfortunately, the perspectives of Sona changes in the decade of the 60's: the turning of the Panamerican Highway in the district of Las Palmas and the opening of the road Montijo-Puerto Mutis completely isolated our people and therefore caused a decrease in the commercial life of the region.

All this led a group of people met with the idea of creating an event that would serve as a showcase for producers in the province could expose and publicize their products. And thus arises the First Industrial, Agricultural, Touristic and Craft Fair of Veraguas, based in Sona, in 1957, and then discontinued until 1971; since when carried out almost continuously until today.
