SANTA FE NATIONAL PARK

The Santa Fe National Park is located in the highlands of the Cordillera Central of the country, in the district of Santa Fe province of Veraguas. The best access to this protected area is the town of the same name.

It covers some 72.636 hectares, the upper basin of the Santa Maria River and throughout the highlands of the northern part of the province of Veraguas, including land on both the Pacific slope and in the Caribbean one.

The evergreen forest with an excellent state of preservation, is the largest in the Santa Fe National Park, occupying more than 95% of the surface.

Usually has a canopy composed of tree species stay with leaves all year although there may be some individuals of deciduous species mixed with evergreen species.

Regarding the floristic composition is possible to emphasize the orchid family, species of great importance for conservation.

In general, the animal species present in the area are the characteristics of the central mountain range, such as birds, about 300 species, or mammals such as tapir, jaguar, puma, bat and white-faced monkey.
